Completely renewed at the end of 2014, the Smart fortwo has an always rather original, but more mature style. It has also become more comfortable without betraying its proverbial handling qualities (6.9 meters are enough to make a U-turn): if the body length is unchanged (269 cm), the width has grown to 166 cm (10 more than before) and, consequently, the passenger compartment is more airy. Still with regard to the interiors, the finishes and materials improve, as does the safety equipment: for the entire range, the side elements for the head and chest and the knee for the driver are standard as well as the front airbags. The shell – always based on the steel Tridion cell to which the plastic elements of the bodywork are anchored – is unprecedented and equally valid for the suspension: positive effects on comfort and drivability. The engine is always between the rear wheels and, therefore, under the boot (260/360 liters, with access via a rear window that can be lifted and a lower flap): it is a 1.0 three-cylinder with a power of 61 or 71 HP, or 0.9 turbo 90 or 109 HP. In the first case, it can also be combined with the Youngster “basic” set-up, the only one without power steering but, in any case, equipped as standard with anti-backward system for hill starts, cruise control, “climate”, radio with Aux / Usb / Bluetooth and alloy wheels. The gearbox of the Smart fortwo coupé is a five-speed manual or a six-speed dual clutch robot: the latter is optional for the 70 and 90, as standard in the special nightrunner and safetown versions, as well as in the sporty Brabus. Leather interiors are also standard for the top of the range Prime (more refined, with radar and anti-collision cameras) and Brabus (more aggressive, with lowered chassis).
